Everyone wants to feel important, unique and that they are the dedicated focus of your attention. Today’s smart marketers understand this and are aggressively utilizing the new media to create highly-personalized, interactive communications. When the message you send speaks to the collective, it loses significant relevance, appeal and impact. It also adds distance between you and your audience, reducing the urgency to respond. Consider the difference between personally asking an employee to take on a challenge and requesting volunteers from a large group. Of course the one-to-one appeal is much more powerful. There are certainly occasions when individual messages are not practical, and when the content is so compelling that people must respond, but for all others, speak one-to-one. When people take your communications personally, you get better results.
