Twelve Tips to Enhance Your Executive Messages

#1 Get to the Point

Far too many executives lose their audiences because they take so long getting to the point. They build their case from the ground up, providing all the background, caveats and assumptions, saving the central point until the end. That may be necessary when establishing foundation in a court of law, but it is woefully ineffective for executive messages. First state the central point, clearly and concisely. Next provide only as much supporting detail as is necessary. Finally restate the point in your conclusion. This will help focus attention, avoid confusion and ensure that people get your point.
